Information on Starting and Maintaining a Support Group
I get a lot of questions about how to start a support group, how to facilitate it, and how to maintain it. I have been facilitating support groups since 2012, and it is one of my many passions. I am excited to share with you what I have learned! Below are two documents: some essential information for someone who wants to start and/or facilitate a support group, as well as an example of group guidelines and intake form. Support Groups I have Facilitated:

Clincian In Training Group Co-Leader, East Carolina University, Center for Counseling and Student Development, Spring 2019
• Co-led in-persont Acceptance and Commitment Therapy group for students
• Addressed the inner critic and encouraged self-compassion

Depression Recovery Group Leader, Peer Support Solutions, Dec. 2017- July 2018
• Led online support group for women with mood disorders and adults with bipolar disorder
• Provided psychoeducation and discussions around topics specific to these disorders and recovery

Depression and Bipolar Support Group Leader, Peer Support Solutions, Aug. 2016- July 2018
• Led online support group for young adults with depression and bipolar disorders
• Encouraged discussion around topics specific to these disorders and recovery

Live Out Your Journey Support Group Leader, Aug. 2015-June 2016
• Gave members the opportunity to share in an understanding environment
• Encouraged members to use the support group as just one part of their journey

Tri-Cities Survivors of Suicide Support Group Leader, 2012-2013
• Allowed members to share stories and emotions in a compassionate setting
• Led supportive and thought provoking activities that promoted healing
